THE HISTORY OF JAZZ AUSTRALIA

This memoir, The History of Jazz Australia by Diana Allen, was written in 2015 to mark the 30th anniversary of this organisation.  It opens with surprising beginnings when she explains how her first attempt at presenting jazz was to raise funds to save the Terang Civic Theatre in the mid 1970s!

It goes on to tell of her three month investigatory tour of the famous and not so famous jazz clubs in the USA and UK in 1983 when she investigated overseas trends and talked to jazz club owners who surprised her by discouraging her from running a jazz club! She did however make lifelong friends and contacts as a result of this three month jazz club crawl which eventually led to other jazz ventures and adventures down the track for the next 30 years.
